American Airlines plans expansion in Brazil
27 Apr 2011

American Airlines has revealed plans to expand its range of flights to Brazil from its hub in Miami.

The carrier has filed an application with the US transportation department for the right to operate an additional ten weekly services to the South American country.

If permission is granted, travellers will be offered extra connections from Miami to Brasilia and Belo Horizonte, as well as a brand new route to Manaus.

Will Ris, American Airlines' senior vice president of government affairs, said the new flights could begin operating as early as December this year.

'From Miami International Airport, we offer more than 380 weekly flights to more than 30 cities throughout Latin America and Mexico,' he added.

'Our proposed new service will give our customers even more travel options to Brazil, Latin America's largest economy.'

The carrier also operates services to Recife, Rio de Janeiro, Salvador and Sao Paulo from Miami, as well as routes to Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo from its Dallas Fort Worth and New York JFK hubs.
