Emirates A380 touches down in Shanghai

Emirates A380 touches down in Shanghai
28 Apr 2011

Emirates this week commenced its Airbus A380 service from Dubai to the Chinese city of Shanghai.

The world's largest passenger aircraft arrived at Shanghai Pudong airport yesterday (27 April) and will fly on the route three times a week on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

Richard Jewsbury, the airline's senior vice president of commercial operations in the Far East, described the A380's arrival as a 'historic moment' that was made possible by the hard work of organisations such as the Civil Aviation Administration of China.

He added: 'The number eight is considered the most fortuitous number in … Chinese culture.

'Now in our eighth year of passenger operations to Shanghai, we move to the next phase of our strong and valued partnership with the city of Shanghai and Greater China with [the] launch of the Airbus A380.'

Shanghai is one of four destinations in China served by Emirates, along with Beijing, Hong Kong and Guangzhou.

British travellers heading to Dubai can catch Airbus A380 flights to the destination from London Heathrow and Manchester.
