New York visitors urged to explore the Bronx
6 May 2011
Travellers planning a trip to New York this spring and summer are being encouraged to visit the Bronx, one of the city's five boroughs.
Tourism organisation NYC & Company describes the area as 'a one-stop destination for entertainment, culture, history, flavour and outdoor activities'.
Attractions to look out for include Yankee Stadium, the New York Botanical Garden, Arthur Avenue's Little Italy and Wave Hill.
People visiting this part of New York City between 12 and 22 May will be able to join in with the 40th annual celebration of Bronx Week, which will encompass festivals, parades, tours and other events celebrating the borough's culture and community.
George Fertitta, chief executive of NYC & Company, said: 'The borough features hundreds of acres of parks, gardens and beaches, and contributes greatly to the diversity of our international city.
'We want to remind everyone of all that the Bronx has to offer and encourage them to take advantage of its seasonal events.'
One of the experiences on offer to visitors is heading to Bronx Zoo to see Mia, a mischievous cobra that once disappeared for six days.
The attraction is also home to African baboons, lemurs, crocodiles, a butterfly garden and a seabird colony.
