Western Cape launches winter tourism campaign
10 May 2011

The tourist board representing Cape Town and the Western Cape region of South Africa has launched a campaign promoting the experiences on offer during the winter season, which coincides with summer in the northern hemisphere.

According to Cape Town Routes Unlimited, the initiative showcases 'an array of exciting winter experiences' in this 'beautiful … year-round holiday destination'.

Among the activities recommended are seeing cheetahs in Oudtshoorn, embarking on a game drive in the Bontebok National Park and taking an off-road 4x4 or motorbike trip through the Gamkaskloof area.

A dedicated microsite is due to launch on 19 May, featuring an adjustable temperature gauge highlighting the experiences available in various parts of the province in different weather conditions and temperatures.

The campaign carries the slogan 'esCape to the Cape' and is due to run until September 2011.

Calvyn Gilfellan, chief executive of Cape Town Routes Unlimited, said: 'This campaign positions Cape Town and the Western Cape as [a] year-round destination, exposing travellers to experiences, attractions and activities that will enthral and captivate holidaymakers through the winter months.'
