Krakow Film Festival returning this month
12 May 2011

Travellers visiting Poland this month can seek out some memorable cultural experiences during the 51st Krakow Film Festival, which will run from 23 to 29 May.

First staged in 1961, the event is the oldest of its kind in Poland and one of Europe's longest-running celebrations of documentary, animation and short films.

Submissions will compete for golden and silver dragon awards in the international short film competition, horns in the documentary category and hobby horses in the national section.

Visitors will also be able to see a range of screenings in the non-competitive side of the programme.

Bogdan Becla, acting director of the Polish National Tourist Office, said: 'We have a wonderfully rich tradition in film and cinema in Poland and the Krakow Film Festival is certainly an established, world-famous event.'

Travellers planning to catch flights to Krakow for a city break this year can also visit permanent attractions such as Wawel Castle and the picturesque Old Town.
