New Orleans hosts parade to celebrate tourism

The city of New Orleans recently hosted a Mardi Gras-style parade to celebrate tourism and highlight its importance for the local economy.
More than 1,000 people associated with the hospitality industry took part in the event, holding signs carrying messages such as 'tourism matters' and 'travel means jobs'.
The procession, which was arranged as part of the US Travel Association's National Travel and Tourism Week rally, also underlined the significance of the industry as an aspect of New Orleans' cultural heritage.
New Orleans welcomed 8.3m visitors last year, surpassing the 8m mark for the first time since Hurricane Katrina in August 2005.
The city's tourism industry generates some $5bn (£3.1bn) every year and creates jobs for approximately 70,000 people.
Travellers planning a trip to the destination can head to the French Quarter to visit its music venues, museums, restaurants, bars and other attractions.
Other popular tourist sites include the New Orleans Museum of Art and St Louis cathedral.
