Travellers visiting the Russian city of St Petersburg this year can see an exhibition of archaeological finds from Saudi Arabia.

The display, which opens at the State Hermitage Museum today (16 May), comes to Russia following runs at the Louvre in Paris and La Caixa Foundation in Barcelona.

It comprises 320 items that are being shown for the first time outside Saudi Arabia, which have been selected from the collections of the National Museum in Riyadh, King Saud University Museum and a number of provincial institutions.

Visitors can also see relics that were discovered during recent excavations.

The exhibits cover an extensive period from the Stone Age, about 1m years BC, to the establishment of modern Saudi Arabia, highlighting the rich culture and history of the kingdom.

Visitors can learn more about the state's contributions to the global economy over the centuries, as well as its significance as a bridge between eastern and western civilisations.
