Campaign to promote Lower Manhattan

Campaign to promote Lower Manhattan
25 May 2011

A new campaign is being launched this year to promote New York City's Lower Manhattan neighbourhood.

Due to begin on 1 June, the initiative will include new tour itineraries, special offers at local hotels, media advertisements and discounts at shops, restaurants, attractions and cultural institutions.

The Get More NYC: Lower Manhattan campaign will also feature a welcome programme at John F Kennedy airport, with passengers being greeted by colourful posters and decorations after catching flights to New York.

One of the main aims of the project is to highlight the recovery that the area has experienced following the 9/11 attacks a decade ago.

New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg said: 'A crucial part of the story of September 11th is how Lower Manhattan - an area many people said would turn into a ghost town - has come back in the past ten years.

'People from across the country and around the world have contributed to its revival, and now we want our visitors to see that full recovery for themselves.'

The 9/11 Memorial will open to the public later this year, following a dedication ceremony on 11 September.

Lower Manhattan encompasses areas such as Battery Park City and the harbour, which provides links to Brooklyn and Staten Island.
