Vancouver 'highly popular for gap years'

Vancouver has become a highly popular destination for travellers on gap years, the local tourist board has revealed.

Amber Sessions, manager of media relations at Tourism Vancouver, said the reasons behind the city's popularity for gap years are the same as those that attract ordinary visitors, namely its scenic beauty and the range of activities available.

She said that the destination is particularly suited to people who enjoy getting out and being adventurous.

'Gap year travellers find a wealth of outdoor activities at their doorstep,' said Ms Sessions. 'For example, skiing within 15 minutes of the city centre, kayaking, sailing and watersports, world-class rock climbing and mountain biking.

'Not to mention great restaurants, nightlife and lots of young people living in the city centre.'

Travellers planning a trip to Vancouver this year can visit attractions such as Stanley Park, the city's aquarium and museums dedicated to everything from anthropology to contemporary art.
