Philadelphia visitors urged to see historic attractions

Travellers planning a trip to Philadelphia this year have been encouraged to see some of its historic attractions.

Jeff Guaracino, vice president of the Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation, identified the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall as two of the top sights on offer to visitors.

Holidaymakers who enjoy absorbing the culture of their destination can head to the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Barnes Foundation, while people with a passion for shopping will have plenty of opportunities to indulge in some retail therapy.

'Shopping is [a] significant activity here, especially with no sales tax on clothing,' said Mr Guaracino.

'Events, festivals, gardens, architecture and dining are all tourism draws. A picture at the Rocky statue is a favourite.'

The tourism expert also recommended taking a trip out of the city to see some of the 'beautiful countryside' nearby, while travellers taking tours of America's east coast can head on to cities such as Washington DC and New York.
