16 Jun 2011

The German city of Dusseldorf is due to attract four million visitors in nine days next month, as the annual summer festival is taking place on the banks of the Rhine.

Described by the local tourist board as "the best-kept secret" amongst German summer festivals, the Rheinkirmes features 42-acres of beer tents and fun fairs as well as spectacular firework displays.

From 15 to 24 July, the festival is expected to draw more than 400,000 visitors a day to the German city, who will be able to enjoy state-of-the-art roller coasters and various other amusement rides.

The festival began around 500 years ago and major attractions include the longest bar in the world, which features 260 bars, pubs and restaurants in just under a mile.

Furthermore, music fans are advised to book their flights to Dusseldorf in time for the Open Source Festival, which starts on July 23rd, with thousands of DJs, live acts, and bands due to perform in the German city.
