King Kong helping boost popularity of Universal Studios

King Kong helping boost popularity of Universal Studios
17 Jun 2011

The number of people heading to Universal Studios Hollywood has soared over the past 12 months, thanks in no small part to the new King Kong ride.

According to the latest figures compiled by the Themed Entertainment Association, the venue attracted some five million visitors in 2010, a 26 per cent increase on the previous year.

Notably, the company has put this trend largely down to the popularity of the 3-D ride celebrating the gigantic ape, with the attraction helping Universal Studies to become the third most-popular visitor attraction in the south of California.

Welcoming the news, Universal Studios senior vice president Xiomara Wiley told the LA Times: 'We're particularly proud of King Kong 360 3-D, which has become one of our signature thrill rides.'

However, reporting on the new report, the newspaper noted that Disneyland, which is located just outside the city of Anaheim, remains the region's top attraction, with the nearby Disney California Adventure Park coming in second spot.

Universal Studios Hollywood is home to dozens of other rides, including the 'Backlot Fires' attraction and Waterworld: A Live Sea War Spectacular.
