Rihanna is to get behind a new tourism drive aimed at encouraging more people to visit her home country of Barbados.

The Caribbean island state is already a firm favourite among sun-seeking holidaymakers, due in no small part to its year-round good weather, spectacular beaches and clear-blue warm waters.

However, the singer is keen to stress that this isn't all that's on offer in Barbados as she takes part in a three-year drive to promote the country overseas.

'I want each and every visitor to this beautiful island to experience what makes this destination different from all others and that is the spirit and warmth of my fellow Barbadians,' she said in a statement released as she gets set to kick off a new world tour in Brazil.

Rihanna is also scheduled to give a celebratory concert in her home city of Bridgetown at the start of August.

As well as its many world-class beaches, Barbados also boasts a number of historic attractions, including St Nicholas Abbey in St Peter, while it is also home to several nature reserves.
