Brits rate the UK

Brits rate UK as top holiday destination
6 Jul 2011

Most Brits who decide to take a holiday in the UK are doing so out of choice, rather than necessity, according to research from the Institute of Customer Service.

The survey revealed that 85 per cent of holidaymakers who take breaks in the UK are choosing not to travel abroad, as opposed to feeling like they have been forced to stay at home.

Jo Causon, chief executive at the Institute of Customer Service, said: 'UK tourism appears to be going through something of a renaissance ... the industry has capitalised on the trend for 'staycationing' in the recession to showcase what it now has to offer.'

She suggested that holidaymakers no longer fear what she described as 'Fawlty Towers-style' hotels with poor levels of service.

Confidence in customer levels of service is high with 73% of those questioned rating the UK as on a par with, or better than, abroad.

York has just been voted as the UK's prettiest city, according to research from search engine Bing.
