Travellers visiting Florence this year will have the opportunity to see new and ongoing exhibitions exploring various topics relating to Italian art, history and culture.

The Bargello Museum is currently hosting the first exhibition dedicated exclusively to sculptor Bartolomeo Ammannati, which will run until 18 September 2011.

Visitors can head to the Bargello Gardens to see a reconstruction of the fountain in the Salone dei Cinquecento in Palazzo Vecchio, while the Nari monument, Prado Venus and other famous works by Ammannati will also be on display.

Another famous Florentine institution, the Uffizi Gallery, is providing the venue for a show celebrating Giorgio Vasari, 500 years on from his birth.

Due to run until 30 October this year, the exhibition also looks at the origins of the Uffizi, development of which began in the late 1550s.

People planning an autumn or winter break in Florence can head to the Palazzo Strozzi between 17 September this year and 22 January 2012 to see a presentation of masterpieces by the likes of Botticelli, the Della Robbia family and Memling.

The display explores the emergence of the modern banking system in parallel with one of the western world's most significant cultural movements - the Renaissance.
