Dubai International welcomes record number of passengers
25 Jul 2011

Dubai International airport has announced that its passenger traffic reached record levels in the first half of the year.

Approximately 24.6m people passed through the hub - 8.9% more than the 22.6m handled in the first six months of 2010.

On average, 4.09m passengers used Dubai International every month during the first half of 2011, while daily traffic typically consisted of some 135,700 travellers.

The UK is one of the five countries with the greatest volume of people travelling to and from Dubai, along with India, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Iran.

Paul Griffiths, chief executive of Dubai Airports, said: 'As the numbers clearly suggest, robust passenger traffic growth continues despite high fuel prices and growing economic uncertainty in Europe and the US.

'This is being driven by the addition of new routes and frequencies, more wide-bodied aircraft [and] the attractiveness of Dubai as a business and tourist destination and an efficient transit point.'

Flights to Dubai are available with carriers including Emirates, which operates regular Airbus A380 services to the destination from London Heathrow and Manchester.
