Users of Blackberry, Android, iPhone and iPad devices can now access a free mobile application and website to help them make the most of trips to the Adirondack region in the state of New York.

The tools provide information on hotels, events, restaurants, attractions, hiking trails and many other locations and experiences on offer in the area.

A 'what's nearby' function in the mobile app allows travellers to discover points of interest based on their location in the region.

Ron Ofner, executive director of the Adirondack Regional Tourism Council, said: 'The new mobile website and Adirondack travel app will act as a guidebook, GPS, map and travel agent all in one.

'More than 10m people visit the Adirondack region annually and these new features will make travel decisions easier.'

Covering some 6m acres in the state of New York, the region encompasses about 2,000 miles of hiking trails and 3,000 lakes and ponds, as well as 100 towns and villages.
