BA celebrating one year to 2012 Olympics
26 Jul 2011

British Airways has decorated an Airbus A318 with the message 'one year to go' to mark the start of the countdown to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Flight BA001 from London City airport to New York will depart at 13:05 BST tomorrow (27 July) and fly past the Olympic Park.

The message will be visible to people near the venue and in other parts of east London.

Footage of the special flight will also be available on BA's YouTube channel.

Garry Copeland, the airline's director of engineering, said: 'This is the first time in the history of British Airways that we have branded the underbelly of an aircraft with a celebratory message.

'We hope it will bring a real sense of excitement to the Olympic Park and people living around the area. With the countdown underway, British Airways is preparing to welcome the world to Great Britain in 2012.'

As the official airline partner of the 2012 Olympics, BA is set to fly visitors in from more than 150 destinations around the world, with London City airport and Heathrow's Terminal 5 serving as key gateways to the capital.
