28 Jul 2011

United Airlines has launched an application for the iPad, iPhone and iPod touch that provides a range of services for travellers.

Continental and United passengers can use the app to check in, obtain mobile boarding passes, check the status of their flights and access MileagePlus and OnePass accounts.

The free service also includes a feed listing United's latest posts on Twitter.

An Android version of the app is set to be launched in the near future and other smartphone options are also being explored.

Jared Miller, United Airlines' managing director of self-service and emerging technology, said: 'The United app is another step towards giving customers the convenience and control they value.

'This app provides time-saving, full-featured access to the information our customers need while on the go, as well as other useful tools for travellers such as interactive airport smart maps and flight updates.'

Continental was the first US carrier to introduce paperless boarding and now, along with United, offers the option for passengers to use electronic boarding passes at 101 airports worldwide.
