Abu Dhabi hotels enjoy record first-half performance
29 Jul 2011

Hotels in Abu Dhabi experienced their best-ever figures for the opening six months of the year between January and June 2011, the local tourist board has announced.

Guest numbers climbed 11% year-on-year to just over 1m, while the number of nights spent in the emirate rose by 11% to more than 3m.

Growth was also recorded in occupancy, revenue, length of stays and other key areas.

Britain was Abu Dhabi's most important international source market in the first half of the year, with UK visitor numbers increasing by 20% to nearly 73,000.

Sheikh Sultan Bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, chairman of the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority, described the figures as 'impressive' and said they bode well for the destination and its aim to attract 2m hotel guests during the whole year.

He added: 'The results have been assisted by the destination's heightened competitiveness, with average room rates falling by 15% in the first half compared to last year, making Abu Dhabi a more affordable upscale option than Sydney, Paris, New York or Tokyo.'
