New app provides 'insiders' guide' to Auckland
29 Jul 2011
Travellers visiting Auckland during holidays in New Zealand can make use of a new app that has been designed to provide an authentic guide to the city's downtown area and central business district (CBD).
Launched ahead of the forthcoming Rugby World Cup, the free iPhone, iPad and Android application allows users to search for content or use a map view to find recommendations in their area.
The guide contains more than 400 references relating to six neighbourhoods in downtown Auckland, provided by local experts including architect Nat Cheshire, photographer Karen Inderbitzen-Waller and arts critic Hamish Keith.
Users can find out about everything from restaurants, cafes and bars to designer boutiques and art galleries that come recommended from city residents.
Alex Swney, chief executive of promotional agency Heart of the City, said people visiting Auckland for the World Cup should take the opportunity to explore beyond Queen Street and the Queens Wharf fan zone.
He added: 'To make things easier for out-of-towners, the guide divides the CBD into six districts - each with its own unique flavour - and spills the 'what's hot' secrets of the locals who know this city like the back of their hand.'
