Travellers planning a trip to Dubrovnik on Croatia's Adriatic coast can look forward to enjoying a tantalising combination of good food and culture, according to a representative from the local tourist board.

Romana Vlasic, manager of the Dubrovnik Convention and Incentive Bureau, recommended trying the local oysters and checking out the city's Summer Festival.

Taking place for the 62nd time this year, the festival will present a programme of theatre productions, opera performances, music concerts and other events until 25 August.

'There are many events throughout the year. The Dubrovnik Summer Festival is one of the most important,' said Ms Vlasic.

'It's a popular gastronomy destination. The oysters from the Dubrovnik region are among the best in the world.'

She also highlighted the area's easy accessibility, with a 'huge list' of international airlines operating flights to Dubrovnik.

In a recent interview with Reuters, Croatian prime minister Jadranka Kosor said the strong performance of the country's tourism industry looks set to boost the growth of the national economy this year.
