Etihad Airways has boosted access to the Middle East for travellers based in north-west England with the introduction of twice-daily flights to Abu Dhabi from Manchester.

The airline now operates 14 non-stop services on the route every week, providing access to a network of more than 60 global destinations from its hub in the United Arab Emirates.

Etihad has also opened a new line maintenance facility at Manchester airport, which will provide services including transit, daily checks, engineering work and fault repairs for aircraft and cabins.

Andrew Harrison, managing director of the base, said: 'We are proud to welcome this new facility on the day that Etihad has doubled the frequency of its service.

'These initiatives reflect Etihad's consistent commitment to the north of England, which will enable individual travellers and local businesses to use Manchester as a convenient hub to travel throughout the world.'

The airline has a strong brand presence in the region, partly owing to its sponsorship agreement with Premier League football club Manchester City.
