Hire cars 'essential' in Florida

Travellers planning a trip to Florida can ensure they make the most of the destination by hiring a car, according to the state tourist board.
Colin Brodie, UK director at Visit Florida, said that renting a vehicle is practically essential for people planning to explore the region and visit some of its many attractions.
He also encouraged UK holidaymakers to take advantage of the favourable exchange rate at the moment.
'Some great shopping can be had with the current exchange rate at 1.63 [dollars to the pound], making Florida great value for money,' said Mr Brodie.
'A rental car is an essential part of your Florida experience as well.'
The tourism industry representative pointed out that travellers can combine some of the state's most appealing aspects by spending part of their holiday visiting parks before heading to the coast.
He recommended taking a week to explore attractions such as Walt Disney World and the Universal resort before relaxing on beaches on the Gulf of Mexico or the Atlantic coast.
