Culture vultures planning a trip to Barcelona over the coming months will have the opportunity to see a major exhibition charting the evolution of art in the 20th century.

Entitled 27 Works, 18 Authors, the display is based at the Fundacio Sunol and will run until 31 December 2011.

It comprises 27 pieces from the Josep Sunol collection, spanning a period from 1924 to 1998 that was defined by a number of influential movements and developments in modern art.

Visitors can see paintings, sculptures, photographs and other works providing an insight into various cultural phenomena and concepts that emerged in the 1900s, including abstraction and pop art.

Many of the exhibits are from the 1970s and 80s, when Mr Sunol acquired the majority of his collection.

The Fundacio Sunol is one of many cultural institutions in Barcelona, with attractions such as the Museu Picasso and Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya also highly popular among visitors.
