Abta: More MPs supporting increased protection for travellers
30 Aug 2011

An increasing number of members of parliament are showing support for increased financial protection for travellers, according to new research.

Abta, the industry association, commissioned a survey by ComRes which found that 62% of MPs believe that the system should be reformed to ensure that all people travelling are protected from financial loss.

The proportion expressing this view has increased from 54% nine months ago.

Luke Pollard, head of public affairs for Abta, reiterated the organisation's call for a 'comprehensive and workable solution' that includes airlines, protects consumers and is fair for the sector as a whole.

He said the association is 'clearly gaining ground' in its campaign.

'Now is the time to press our case even more strongly, with fundamental reviews of the Atol scheme, Package Travel Directive and air passenger rights underway, so that we finally deal with the elephant in the room - including airlines in a protection regime,' added Mr Pollard.
