Travellers considering an autumn trip to Scotland will be able to check out some new events this year.

Dumfries and Galloway will provide the setting for the first ever Day of the Region to take place in the UK.

Scheduled for 1 and 2 October, this celebration of the area will comprise art exhibitions, open days and special events such as Spooks in the Wood, which is designed specifically for youngsters.

There will also be dancing, the opening of Carsphairn Community Garden and much more for visitors to enjoy.

Holidaymakers who like exploring outdoors can head to the Highlands for the inaugural Torridon Walking Festival, which will run from 1 to 3 October.

The event will combine low-level walks following estate roads and footpaths with hikes at a higher altitude for people who are more accustomed to the mountain environment.

Travellers will also be able to take part in loch-side rambles, woodland walks, a day with a professional landscape photographer and other activities in the Torridon area, which is known for its dramatic scenery.

One option for people heading to south-west Scotland is to catch flights to Glasgow, while those visiting the north of the country can fly to Aberdeen or Inverness.
