Travellers hoping to make the most of Sydney during a visit to the destination have been encouraged to explore and discover some of its cultural diversity.

Sandra Chipchase, chief executive of promotional agency Destination NSW, noted that famous sites like the Sydney Opera House and the Harbour Bridge are still the top attractions.

However, visitors have also been showing an interest in venturing to areas that are not so well known.

'Sydney's precincts are … very popular with tourists looking for a culturally rich experience, with suburbs such as Leichhardt - famous for its Italian influence, restaurants and markets - and Parramatta - a culturally diverse city, boasting wonderful festivals of music, dance and food, such as Parramasala every November,' said Ms Chipchase.

Commenting on the New South Wales region in general, the tourism industry spokeswoman said that it offers something to suit all interests, from beach and surf culture on the north and south coasts to the 'magical nature' of the Blue mountains.
