Finnair will operate a special flight to Singapore this month inspired by the popular mobile game Angry Birds, which was developed by Finnish company Rovio.

The unique service on 20 September will carry a group of fans of the game, who will take part in a competitive challenge at an altitude of 10km using consoles specially programmed for the event.

Peter Vesterbacka, Rovio's marketing director, revealed that Angry Birds has been downloaded to various platforms more than 350m times.

Jarkko Konttinen, Finnair's vice president of global brand and marketing communications, said: 'This avian alliance is one example of Finnair's creative, fresh way of operating.

'Finnair is a significant player in traffic between Asia and Europe, and our goal is to double the number of Asian flights to 140 flights per week by 2020. It's great to be involved in bringing Finnish innovation to Asia.'

The airline also operates routes to major cities such as Hong Kong, Shanghai, Tokyo and Singapore in the Far East.
