Brits 'showing more interest in Mexico'

Brits 'showing more interest in Mexico'
6 Sep 2011

Post Office Travel Money has announced the Mexican peso as its fastest-growing currency for summer 2011, with a 144% increase in orders from Brits compared to last year.

The company cited direct British Airways flights to Cancun as a factor that has contributed to strong interest in the country.

Long-haul destinations dominated the Post Office list of currencies that have attracted more demand from UK travellers this summer, with Barbados, Australia and Thailand also appearing in the top ten.

Croatia, Iceland and Switzerland were the only three short-haul locations to feature.

The Croatian kuna is the only currency that has been included in the company's growth list for the past there years.

Post Office Travel Money boss Sarah Munro described Argentina as this year's 'surprise success'.

She added: 'Once again the big winners in the drive to attract UK holidaymakers were destinations further afield.

'Encouragingly, the best growth levels were recorded in August, which could be a positive indicator of what lies ahead as the winter sun season gets underway.'
