Chicago targeting more UK visitors

Chicago targeting more UK visitors

The Chicago Convention and Tourism Bureau (CCTB) has launched an initiative to boost the number of British travellers visiting the US city.

London-based firm Hills Balfour has been appointed to provide a range of services aimed at the UK market, including consumer marketing, social networking and public relations.

With more than 158,000 tourists a year, Britain represents Chicago's largest international market.

A drop in visitor numbers last year led to the launch of the new campaign, which is part of a long-term strategy to get more UK travellers visiting the destination.

Warren R Wilkinson, senior vice president of marketing and communications for the CCTB, said the appointment of Hills Balfour is a 'crucial' part of the plan to boost inbound tourism in Chicago.

He added: 'The UK represents Chicago's largest inbound international market, with significant growth potential due in large part to the exceptional accessibility to Chicago with over eight daily non-stop [flights] from London Heathrow as well as service from Manchester.'

People visiting the city can check out attractions such as the Magnificent Mile shopping and leisure district, Millennium Park and the Museum of Science and Industry.
