People planning to get some winter sun by paying a visit to Florida later this year might have the opportunity to join in with festivities at a special event.

The Pirates in Paradise festival will come to the island of Key West from 24 November to 4 December.

Held to celebrate the destination's heritage as a pirate hotspot, the event encompasses activities and attractions including displays of maritime art, treasure and shipwreck exhibits at venues such as the Custom House Museum and Mel Fisher Maritime Heritage Museum.

There will also be pub strolls and walking tours in Old Town Key West providing an insight into the island's culture and heritage, as well as shipwreck and reef dives, sunset cruises, kayak tours, glass-bottom boat excursions and more.

Another highlight for visitors to look out for is the seventh annual Walk the Plank National Championships, which will take place onboard the schooner Wolf in the Truman waterfront area.

This location will also be home to a pirate village offering plenty of events and entertainment, including a reconstruction of the trial of Anne Bonny and Mary Read.
