16 Sep 2011

Sports enthusiasts can pay a visit to Turin this autumn to watch or possibly take part in a prestigious event.

The Turin Marathon is scheduled for 13 November this year and is set to prove popular among British runners, according to the Italian State Tourist Board.

One of the distinguishing features of the event is the fact that it follows a complete circuit, starting and finishing in Piazza Castello in the centre of Turin.

Spectators can enjoy the atmosphere generated in the heart of the city and see impressive baroque architecture while the race is taking place.

There will also be opportunities for spectators to gather along the banks of the Po river or in the towns of Moncalieri, Nichelino, Beinasco, Orbassano, Rivalta, Rivoli and Collegno.

The Turin Marathon dates back to 1897, making it one of the oldest events of its kind in the world.

Other experiences on offer in the Italian city include visiting the Mole Antonelliana tower and seeing some of the posters, installations and memorabilia on display at the National Cinema Museum.
