San Francisco could be the city break destination of choice for jazz fans over the coming months, following the recent launch of a major music event on America's west coast.

The 29th San Francisco Jazz Festival got underway on 15 September and will continue until 18 December this year.

Artists from all over the world will be performing, including saxophonist Joshua Redman and pianist Brad Mehldau, who will be taking to the stage at the Herbst Theatre on 22 October.

The Paramount Theatre will present shows by the likes of Goran Bregovic and his Wedding and Funeral Orchestra (28 October) and gospel singing duo Mary Mary (17 December), while the Palace of Fine Arts Theatre will welcome dancer Savion Glover and Bare Soundz on 5 November.

Other venues taking part in the festival include Amnesia, the Jewish Community Centre of San Francisco, the YBCA Forum and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.

Music lovers visiting the US city can also check out live concerts spanning a range of genres at venues such as The Fillmore, Mezzanine and Slim's.
