Aer Lingus this week celebrated its 75th anniversary by unveiling a new aircraft with a retro design.

An Airbus A320 in the 1960s Irish International livery, named St Coleman, was painted specifically for the celebrations and presented at a ceremony at Dublin airport.

Cabin crew took part in the event by modelling vintage uniforms from every decade from the 1940s to the present day.

Speaking at the ceremony, Aer Lingus chief executive Christoph Mueller said 2011 is a 'very special year' for the airline.

He added: 'Since the early days of 1936, Aer Lingus has grown to become a flag carrier with a worldwide reputation for our friendly staff, our high quality of service, value for money and innovation.

'Throughout the 75 years we have carried out our mission of connecting Ireland with the world, transporting millions of customers annually.'

The carrier's route network currently includes flights to Dublin from several UK airports, as well as services to popular destinations in the US such as Chicago, New York and Orlando.
