Travellers planning a trip to the Czech Republic over the coming months can enjoy a 'fairytale Christmas', according to the national tourist board.

An array of events and celebrations will be spreading festive cheer across the country, such as the seasonal markets in Prague.

Set to open in the Old Town Square from 26 November to New Year's Day, the fairs will sell decorations, gifts, sweets, jewellery, nativity sets and other items, as well as plenty of hot food and drink.

The ceremonial lighting of Prague's Christmas tree will take place at 17:00 local time on 26 November, while another popular market will open in Wenceslas Square on the following day.

Elsewhere in the Czech Republic, the city of Brno will host festive events including concerts and demonstrations of traditional crafts, while Cesky Krumlov will offer carol singing, a communal Christmas tree lighting, a live nativity scene and more.

The country is also home to several historic buildings and castles that could add a memorable element to any festive break, such as Hruby Rohozec in the North Bohemia region.
