People searching for a holiday that combines relaxation with fun and activity have been encouraged to consider Zermatt, which is a popular destination for ski holidays in the Swiss Alps.

Discussing some of the experiences on offer to visitors, Edith Zweifel, media and content manager at Zermatt Tourism, highlighted events such as the Horu Trophy.

Set to return from 12 to 15 January 2012, this outdoor curling tournament attracts competitors from around the world.

Music fans might want to check out Zermatt Unplugged, which will run from 17 to 21 April next year.

In the past, the festival has hosted performances from the likes of Seal, David Gray, OneRepublic and Mando Diao.

Summing up the appeal of the destination, Ms Zweifel said: 'Zermatt is a very attractive place because you can find whatever you need for relaxing and interesting holidays.'

International travellers planning a trip to the Swiss resort might find it easiest to catch flights to Geneva and transfer to the destination by train.
