Enjoy Christmas lights and cannoli in Brooklyn

Enjoy Christmas lights and cannoli in Brooklyn
26 Oct 2011

People planning a city break in New York this December will be able to soak up the festive atmosphere of Brooklyn and sample some local cuisine on the 'Christmas lights and cannoli' tour.

Local bus tour operator A Slice of Brooklyn has announced that its festive itinerary will be returning for the fifth time this winter.

Guests will be able to enjoy experiences including cappuccino and cannoli - a traditional Sicilian dessert - at one of the borough's most popular Italian pastry shops.

The three-and-a-half-hour tour also stops off in Dyker Heights, an Italian-American area of Brooklyn that attracts more than 100,000 people every year with its Christmas lights, giant wooden soldiers, animatronic figures, nativity scenes and other seasonal decorations.

Local resident Tony Muia, who launched the tourist service in 2006, said his intention is to provide an easy way for visitors to board a bus in Manhattan and experience Brooklyn's festive attractions 'from a native's perspective'.

'When I started doing the Christmas tour five years ago, nobody was bothering to go pick people up in Manhattan and bring them to Brooklyn,' he added.

'So I took it upon myself to be its official ambassador for the holidays.'

Mr Muia's company also operates pizza-themed tours of the New York borough.
