Sydney's Bondi Beach recently hosted Australia's largest sunrise breakfast, illustrating why the destination is 'the world's best festival and event city', according to Destination NSW.

Some 5,000 visitors and locals gathered along the shore for the occasion, which was arranged as part of the Crave Sydney International Food Festival.

Among the attendees were Aboriginal didgeridoo players, celebrity chef Bill Granger and a 50-piece orchestra, which played as the sun came up.

George Souris, New South Wales minister for tourism and major events, noted that Bondi Beach is one of the leading attractions in Sydney, with some 544,000 international visitors and 816,000 domestic guests in the year ending June 2011.

He added: 'Breakfast on Bondi celebrates Bondi's unique beach lifestyle with activities including sunrise yoga and Brazilian capoeira.'

Mr Souris went on to highlight some of the other major outdoor events that provide entertainment for Sydney visitors and locals every year, such as the New Year's Eve fireworks display and Mardi Gras festivities.
