Travellers planning to leave the January blues behind by embarking on a city break early next year could consider paying a visit to Glasgow to check out a popular cultural celebration.

Celtic Connections 2012 will get underway on 19 January and run until 5 February.

Set to return for its 19th outing, the festival celebrates folk, roots, world, traditional, indie, blues, jazz and other types of music with hundreds of concerts and events at venues throughout the Scottish city.

More than 2,000 artists are due to perform in 2012, including Bela Fleck and the original Flecktones, Martha and the Vandellas, Jack Bruce of Cream fame and Orchestra Baobab.

Visitors will also be able to see a one-off reunion gig by Glasgow's The Big Dish and a show by Floating Palace featuring KT Tunstall.

Travellers planning to visit Scotland over the coming months can also experience a range of events and sights during the Winter Festival, which will run from 26 November this year to 25 January 2012 and combine three of the country's most famous events - St Andrew's Day, Hogmanay and Burns Season.
