WWI exhibition opens in London
15 Nov 2011

An exhibition paying tribute to the sacrifices made during World War I is now showing at the Gallery@Oxo venue on London's South Bank.

The display is the result of a competition organised by the Belgian Tourist Office-Brussels & Wallonia in partnership with Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design.

Students were asked to create works illustrating what World War I signified to them and conveying their emotional response to the conflict.

The exhibition was officially opened by Belgian ambassador Johan Verbeke on 11 November and will be showing at the Gallery@Oxo every day until 21 November, at which time it will move to London's Swiss Cottage Library Gallery until 2 December.

It is one of a series of events being arranged in the build-up to the centenaries of the beginning and end of World War I in 2014 and 2018.

Tourism Flanders-Brussels recently announced that some €20m (£17.2m) is being invested in projects including museum renovations and new visitor centres ahead of the commemorations.
