Discover 'old-school America' in Texas

Travellers should consider paying a visit to Texas if they are interested in exploring a state that represents 'old-school America', according to the local tourist board.
Speaking at World Travel Market 2011, Diana Stevie, European tourism coordinator at Texas Tourism, admitted that the destination will always struggle to compete with iconic cities and landmarks like New York, the Golden Gate Bridge and Las Vegas.
However, the promotional agency has been working to highlight the quintessentially American attractions and experiences on offer in the state.
'Texas is by far the best place to find true, authentic cowboy culture,' said Ms Stevie.
'There's a lot of awareness of that Texas - cowboys, tumbleweeds, oil wells and JR [from Dallas]. Old-school America.'
As well as having a slightly old-fashioned and nostalgic side, Texas is a very cosmopolitan state, the spokeswoman added, with a combination of cowboy culture, Mexican heritage and even some German influences.
It is also home to three of the ten largest cities in the US by population - Houston, San Antonio and Dallas.
