Air France recognised for social media efforts

Air France has been acknowledged for its efforts and innovations in social media, receiving the prize for 'best e-reputation' at the 25th Grand Prix from Communication & Enterprise, a leading association of communications businesses.

A jury of about 30 people decided that the airline should win the award for the quality and value of its Facebook page.

Particular praise was reserved for the way the carrier used the social media platform, with the support of editorial agency Wordappeal, to keep travellers informed during the snow storms in winter 2010-11.

The jury said: 'Air France has managed to create a real e-reputation hub on Facebook, with questions answered in about ten languages and a subtle balance of a corporate tool and business support.'

With some 800,000 fans, the French flag carrier is currently the leading European airline on the social networking site and in third place globally.

It also has more than 120,000 followers on Twitter, which is used as a channel for keeping people up to date on sales and corporate news.
