Las Vegas set to receive 39m visitors this year
29 Nov 2011
The Las Vegas tourism industry is showing signs of a strong recovery from the economic downturn, with officials predicting that some 39m people will visit the city in 2011.
Should the destination reach the projected figure, it will be only the second time in its history that it has welcomed so many tourists.
The Nevada city has now experienced 19 consecutive months of growth in visitor numbers and average daily room rates at its properties.
Occupancy at Las Vegas hotels has increased more than four percentage points to 85.2%, meaning it is now more than 20 points above the national average.
Tom Collins, chairman of the board of directors for the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, said a year and a half of steady growth means the local tourism industry is undeniably in recovery.
'We expect the growth we have seen to continue in 2012,' he added.
The destination is famous for the iconic Strip, which glitters with the lights of numerous hotels, casinos, entertainment venues and other attractions.
