New facilities at CairnGorm Mountain this winter

New facilities at CairnGorm Mountain this winter
29 Nov 2011

Winter sports enthusiasts planning a trip to the CairnGorm Mountain resort in Scotland during the coming season will be able to make the most of some new facilities.

Following the completion of annual maintenance work on the funicular and ski lifts, a new motor will be installed at the West Wall Poma skiing area as soon as snow conditions are adequate.

Furthermore, a new heated tunnel door has been fitted to reduce icing problems and allow quicker opening in the mornings, while piste-grooming fleets have been serviced and overhauled.

A new ticket office is nearing completion on the third level of the Day Lodge, meaning queuing times will be reduced at the Base Station, while an updated equipment hire computer system has also been commissioned.

Highlighting another positive development, CairnGorm Mountain spokesman Colin Kirkwood said: 'The resort is keenly awaiting delivery of a Techno Alpin snow cannon for trial for the season following last season's installation of a water sump at the top of the Sheiling tow.'

The winter holiday destination is situated in the heart of Cairngorms National Park and offers 30km of pisted runs, which have attracted more than 250,000 skiers and snowboarders in the last two seasons.
