Brazil enjoys record month for tourism
30 Nov 2011

October 2011 was a record month for Brazil's tourism industry, with some 799,763 international arrivals.

Embratur, the national tourist board, cited data from the Central Bank of Brazil showing that foreign travellers visiting the country during the month spent the equivalent of £340m, up 21% year-on-year.

Furthermore, spending in the period from January to October 2011 reached £3.6bn, marking a 16% increase from the same period last year.

The positive figures mean that the South American nation is on track to reach its targets for the year of attracting 5.4m tourists spending some £4.2bn.

Embratur president Flavio Dino welcomed the news that the Brazilian tourism industry is strengthening despite the ongoing financial crisis.

He added: 'The international promotion of Brazil as a tourist destination has clearly played a big role in these new findings.'

Foreign travellers planning a trip to the country can catch flights to Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, Salvador and other big cities.
