Natural History Museum marks 10 years of free entry

The Natural History Museum in London is this month celebrating the tenth anniversary of the beginning of free admission, which has boosted visitor numbers by 150%.
Some 4.8m guests were recorded at the attraction last year, compared to 1.7m in 2000.
Overall, the museum has welcomed more than 35m people in the past decade, 187% more than in the previous ten-year period.
Activities on offer to visitors include exploring free galleries and exhibits, attending talks, taking part in tours and interacting with real scientists at work in the Darwin Centre.
Discussing the recent increase in guest numbers, Natural History Museum director Dr Michael Dixon said: 'This is a fantastic testament to the huge public appetite for museums, the quality of our visitor offer and the success of the free admission policy.'
VisitBritain chief executive Sandie Dawe noted that museum visits are among the most popular activities undertaken by visitors to the UK, with culture and heritage experiences attracting some £4.5bn worth of tourist spending.
