Abu Dhabi hotels are on course to reach a target of 2m guests in 2011, according to the latest figures.

The Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA) announced that properties in the emirate welcomed more than 182,000 visitors in October, marking an increase of 21% on the same month last year.

As a result, guest numbers in the destination's hotels and hotel apartments in the first ten months of 2011 reached nearly 1.7m, 15% up on the corresponding period in 2010.

The UK continues to be an important source market for Abu Dhabi, with 13,065 Britons visiting local accommodation establishments in October this year.

Lawrence Franklin, strategy and policy director at the ADTA, said: 'The signs are good for achieving our end-of-year target, with expected strong figures for November resulting from the third Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.'

The local tourism industry is also set to receive a boost from the arrival of the Volvo Ocean Race fleet at the end of the year.
