Giant pandas to go on show at Edinburgh Zoo
6 Dec 2011
Animal lovers will soon be booking flights to Edinburgh to see one of the world's most endangered species in the city.
Two giant pandas, named Tian Tian and Yang Guang, arrived at Edinburgh Zoo yesterday (4 December) and are due to go on show from 16 December.
Local tourism authorities hope the arrival of the animals will boost travel to Scotland and the capital city.
The eight-year-old pair are the first pandas to live in the UK for 17 years and are expected to remain in Edinburgh for at least ten years, hopefully breeding at some point during their stay.
While it will be free for zoo visitors to see the animals, numbers for each viewing session are limited so pre-booking is essential.
Groups will be led through the viewing areas every ten minutes and the whole experience will last about 20 minutes.
Other popular animals at Edinburgh Zoo include chimpanzees, penguins, Asian lions and Indian rhinos.
