New initiative promotes golf holidays in Abu Dhabi
12 Dec 2011

Abu Dhabi's tourism agency has launched an initiative to promote golf holidays in the emirate.

The Golf in Abu Dhabi programme has been designed in partnership with golf clubs, hotels and other stakeholders to increase the destination's share of a market that is thought to be worth some US$17bn (£10.9bn) annually.

As a result of the project, visitors will have the opportunity to make the most of low rates at championship-ready courses such as Saadiyat Beach and Yas Links, as well as the 18-hole Al Ain and Al Ghazal golf clubs.

The UK and Ireland have been identified as key source markets for the campaign, as well as countries such as Germany, France, China and Japan.

According to recent figures from the local tourist board, Abu Dhabi hotels welcomed more than 13,000 British guests in October 2011, marking an increase of 13% on the same month last year.

Properties in the emirate are on track to host more than 2m visitors in 2011.
